Call for Volunteer Placement Partners
MS Action Aid Volunteer Programme
MS Action Aid Denmark (MS AA) is looking for potential partners who can provide volunteer placements. For more than 60 years MS AA has been developing a people centred approach to fulfil the organisation’s vision of a world in peace and global equality. For many years we have been facilitating the bringing together of young people from Denmark and many other countries in North and South in volunteer work camps. Later on, we developed a medium term volunteer programme where young people are placed with partners and host families, as well as others types of intercultural encounters.
Promoting Global Citizen Volunteers
In MS Action Aid we believe that there is a need for citizen engagement and for civil society to engage in global problems to challenge poverty and inequality. The Global Citizen Volunteers are agents of change who see themselves as part of both the global problems and of the solutions. It is no longer a question about “us and them” but rather of all of us together. For the Danish volunteers, this active citizenship starts by staying and working with communities. Bringing people from different cultures and a committed global civil society together will provide far better opportunities for the people concerned to raise their voice and provide potential solutions on ways to eradicate poverty and make the world a better place to live – locally, nationally, regionally and globally.
Presence matters to people as one aspect of having a relationship. Closeness and repeated interactions are essential aspects of common understanding, colleagueship and exchange among equals. You cannot build strong relationships if you are not there. MS AA facilitates the personal meeting in order to promote positive change, development and peace.
MS AA never facilitates meetings and travels just to satisfy a wish for adventure, curiosity or enhancing the professional career of individuals. All activities must therefore be guided by clear objectives and these must be relevant and identified in each context.
Partner organisations – do you want to join?
Who are the volunteers?
•The volunteers are typically between 18 and 23 years old, the majority are young Danes who want to learn about the world before continuing with further studies, e.g. to become teachers or nurses.
•We train our volunteers to face the challenges and tasks they meet with great enthusiasm and creative energy, an open mind and tolerant approach.
•A volunteer is most often not trained to do a professional’s job and should not replace the work of a professional.
•A volunteer should be seen as ‘an extra hand’ to be included in the activities that are already taking place on a level that makes sense for both you as a placement organisation and the volunteer.
In order to implement our volunteer programme MS AA depend on strong local partners who can receive groups of volunteers on a regular basis, 3-4 times a year, and who can redistribute the volunteers to different placements, either within the organisation’s own projects or other well-known projects facilitated by other organisations.
We are looking for organisations who can agree with our principles and who are willing to enter into a constructive relationship, and who can analyze the potential outcomes of volunteers to their projects and placements.
Being a partner organisation involves:
•Defining and describing volunteer tasks and objectives for each of the possible placements.
•Appointing a person within the organisation who will be responsible of regular contact with the volunteers and MS Action Aid Denmark.
•Providing the volunteers suitable accommodation with a local host families.
•Providing a detailed budget of the organisation fee including the costs related to organising the stay of a volunteer at a host family.
•Securing any payment to host families and placements of a volunteer in other organisations.
•Introducing, monitoring and assisting the volunteers during their stay and completing an evaluation to be shared between all parties involved.
