Economic Opportunities: Skills for Youth and Youth Led Organizations
With a bulge of the population across the world being youth, they are a demographic that can no longer be ignored. The course aims to equip the youth and youth-serving individuals and organisations with the skills and knowledge necessary to discover advocacy windows to exploit for accelerating better economic opportunities and decent work in the policy environment and labour market. In addition, the course is geared towards kick-starting and driving all stakeholders and the youth towards critical thinking for innovation in both the formal and informal job market.
This course offers an introduction to advocacy and collective action for creating an enabling policy and program environment for access to economic opportunities and decent work for the youth. The course seeks to refresh the skills of and empower AAI staff; partners and other advocates concerned about and would like to work on advocacy relating to descent work. It includes sharing of knowledge and experiences, facilitation to acquire collective understanding, and building a common approach to advocacy on this work.
The course examines and interacts with existing literature on economic opportunities and decent work for youth (EODWY) across the key countries of focus (bearing in mind the recent global developments and trends), conduct legal, policy, and program intervention gaps analysis in as far as the environment for enabling access to better work and economic opportunities for youth. The course is relevant for both those with prior experience and those without or who have little or no prior academic knowledge and work experience in this particular field. By the end of the course, participants will be able to demystify the magnitude of the challenge and provide practical solutions bearing in mind the role of the different stakeholders.

Apply entrepreneurship skills for the creation of employment and decent work.
Establish the role of different actors in the creation of youth employment and decent opportunities
Identify advocacy areas for youth employment and decent opportunities.
The course will mainly consist of five modules with different sessions:
Module 1: Employment opportunities and employability of the youth
Module 2: Trends and emerging economic opportunities and decent work for youth
Module 3: Youth Entrepreneurship, self-employment, and other alternatives
Module 4: Role of different actors in the creation of an enabling environment for youth employment and decent work
Module 5: Advocacy entry points for improving youth employment and decent work
