ADVANCED SWAHILI

Enhance your Swahili fluency by mastering complex grammar that will enable you to engage in conversations in various settings.

This course will advance your Swahili speaking capacity and continue to broaden your Swahili vocabulary and grammar knowledge. You will practice applying complex grammar in your daily conversations and incorporating common Swahili colloquial expressions and idioms in everyday speech. Throughout, you will engage with selected Swahili articles, newspapers, and online materials, listen to diverse national and global news and speeches, participate in class discussions and debates, and write essays, reports, and information summaries. This course will help you build upon and master Swahili grammar rules, phrases and vocabulary learned in previous Swahili classes or studies. Alongside classroom activities, you will participate in several cultural excursions and immersion activities aimed at engaging your speaking skills in unpredictable and unstructured Swahili language environments.

Course outcomes
  • Strengthen your ability to communicate your thoughts effectively and spontaneously in group discussions and in both formal and informal settings.
  • Engage effectively in conversation or correspondence in Swahili to provide and obtain information, and express feelings/emotions/opinions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Swahili-speaking people.

  • Discussions on contemporary issues including infrastructures, health systems, social welfare, globalisation, and environmental conservation.
  • Cultural session, talking about core value differences among nationalities.
  • Language immersion with native speakers and excursions.

Those who have significant Swahili language learning experience and have a wide vocabulary and have mastered common grammatical concepts.
